Trial Flare Unit

Contra Odours's trial flare is a fully contained and mobile unit designed to flare biogas in order to establish the quality and quantity of gas at a landfill site or mine. Trials are generally run for approximately six months, in which time a clear indication of whether or not sufficient gas quantities are available to potentially install longer term gas extraction and flaring systems, and possibly even gas engines to generate electricity.

OUR MOBILE FLARE

Contra Odour have carried out various landfill gas trials in South Africa over the past years.
Running a trial is a much more effective way of ascertaining the gas quantity and quality before purchasing gas management equipment. In this way, correct equipment can be established based on a decision made from gas yield results.

  • The flare is capable of burning 250 cubic metres of Methane per hour. During a trial, flow velocity readings are taken and used to calculate the hourly quantity of gas burned.
  • A diesel powered generator runs continuously and allows the unit to operate in any area.
  • A blower creates suction, drawing gas from the wells, and creates sufficient pressure to feed the required volume of gas to the flare.
