Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)

Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is a flexible mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol, which falls under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The purpose of CDM in South Africa is to lower the costs in an effort to reduce harmful (greenhouse) gas emissions into the atmosphere, while achieving sustainable development at the same time.

Hofstetter gas flaring and electricity generation projects are all eligible to claim Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) which result from reduced Carbon Dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. Contra Odour offer expertise and experience in CDM projects in the following fields:

CONSULTAION AND MONITORING

Consultation in the establishment of a monitoring system based on the Project Design Document (PDD).
Consultation in Quality Assurance of the CDM project
Plant performance reviews and plant consultations to ensure methodology and PDD compliance
Assist in establishing a recognised Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to ensure efficient running of your plant
Data trending, instrument reliability monitoring and overall plant monitoring (heat rate testing etc.)

EMISSION REDUCTION (ER) CALCULATIONS

We offer services in raw data download, interrogation, manipulation and final calculation of monthly ERs for sale to the agreed buyer.
ER calculations need to be made as specified by the PDD and the adopted project methodologies.

CDM COMPLIANT EQUIPMENT

All Hofstetter flaring and gas extraction equipment comes complete with instrument certification applicable to a CDM or Joint Implementation (JI) project. Continuous gas analysis systems (such as the HOFGAS - Assay analyser) can also be supplied as this is a critical part to running a successful CDM project.
